How to get perfect pregnancy photos (and turn it on a beautiful pregnancy portrait)

Perfect pregnancy photos to a perfect portrait

Sarah’s pregancy portrait based on her beautiful pregnancy photos

I paint pregnancy portraits. I do it on a painting live session or based in photos. I prefer to do it on a painting session for so many reasons, but most of my clients are from abroad Portugal, so, most of my clients don´t have the opportunity to be painted on a live painting session.

Keep reeding to know the perfect photos that make the perfect painting.

Why do I prefer a painting live session:

First of all, because I love to talk..

One of my favourite things to do ( I’m an enthusiastic person.. I got many favourites!) is to talk. We can have a conversation on ordinary subjects, on our children (you know mums.. their favourite subject are their kids), on her pregnancy, on my pregnancy, on any other non related with maternity theme.

Second of all, because it’s so much difficult to get to know people from one photograph. A photo is static. We usually pose for a photo with a fast expression such as a wide open smile. On a painting it looks strange and non natural.

This painting is from Sarah’s pregnancy. She was pregnant with Rose and sent me many beautiful photos. I must say that usually it’s difficult to choose one good photograph to inspire my paintings, but this set of photos, that Sarah sent, were all perfect. My trouble was to decide only one.

The poses, the face expressions, all were perfect.

I’ve decided to paint Sarah and Rose with  very delicate and smooth colors. She looked very feminine and  tender so I wanted to show it on the watercolor. Also, I had the intention to draw her as if she is inside the water. Many of the photos were taken next to a lake or river.

And last, but not least, Bellysketcher’s portraits are not realistic portraits of mother’s and their babies. My maternity portraits are, most of all, an interpretation of maternal Love. Knowing who I’m painting determines how well I capture their essence. Being able to meet my clients, their homes, their families is important to the final painting, that often includes details to make that painting even more special.

My (not that realist) goal is to paint only by live session. My dream for Bellysketcher would be this one, having the chance to paint my clients on a painting live session where ever they are. Let’s face it… for that, all I need, is a private jet. How hard can it be to get one?
