Using our hands – using our brain

I make handmade family pictures. Many people ask me why I still use a brush and real ink to paint… why don´t I just use the computer…

Well… because I can and want to use a brush and real ink.

A pregnancy painting and a baby portrait

When I met the babies I once painted in the womb

I invite you to meet sweet Sofia:

baby portrait

I first met Patrícia and João while Sofia was in the womb. Me and Patricia had a day apart in our pregnancies (I was pregnant with Nicolau due on 14th December and Patricia was due 13th December). We had such a delightful session. It looks like it was a long time ago.

You can see how different my paintings were. These are from October 2013:

Sofia is now a sweet and happy child, with irresistible cheeks. Keep reading to know a bit more about her and Brilhante’s family.

the world a pee (part 2)- story of a birth and a maternity painting

Unexpected reencounter after a painting

When Marta opened the door I had no ideia who was there…

Most mother’s remembers with great details (just like a painting)  the story of their babies birth. I’m not an exception. Nicolau was born after a C-section ( he was in a footling womb position and it was impossible to deliver with a natural birth).

Keep reading and know Marta and Sara and part of Nicolau’s birth story ( and also from where I knew Marta before).

Wild Child, happy child

Wild thing  ,you make my heart sing

Free-range kids and learning how to relax

Lately I’ve been thinking about the importance of a little (a lot) of wildness in our lives.

Maria, according to her family, is a mixture of tenderness, wildness and freedom in the adequate amount of each. I’ve decided to paint her as a wild Indian.
